The Chairman of the Forum for the Establishment of a War Crimes Court in Liberia, Mulbah Morlu has been reportedly arrested.
The opposition Congress for Democratic Change announced the arrest and detention of Mr. Morlu at a news conference Sunday.
The party’s Assistant Secretary General Acarous Gray said state security picked up Mr. Morlu at about six PM Friday on Broad Street.
Mr. Gray told the news conference Mulbah Morlu was being detained at the headquarters of the National Security Agency in Monrovia.
According to Mr. Gray an NSA official had informed him that Mr. Morlu’s arrest and subsequent detention had political implications.
Mulbah Morlu is a key member of the Congress for Democratic Change but sometimes disowns membership with the party when his advocacy comes in conflict.
Authorities at the National Security Agency are yet to comment on the arrest of Mr. Morlu or formal charge him in accordance with law.
When contacted Saturday, Justice Minister Philip Banks promised to call back but has not done so.
