The National Security Agency has released the Chairman of the Forum for the Establishment of a War Crimes Court in Liberia, Mulbah Morlu.
Mr. Morlu was set free Monday after being in NSA detention facility for two days.
After his detention, Mr. Morlu told Star Radio he was in held in a dark single-room cell believed to be inhabited by snakes.
He told Star Radio he was denied access to visitation and went without food throughout his detention period.
Government alleged Morlu was invited by state security for questioning for allegedly calling President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf “rebel”.
Mr. Morlu has neither denied nor confirms the allegation but maintains that people who rebel against the state are rebels.
Mr. Morlu also spoke of a government hit list targeting CDC Standard-bearer George Weah, Cllr. Charles Brumskine of the Liberty Party, CDC Secretary General, Eugene Nagbe and Assistant Secretary General, Acarous Gray.
Earlier, Justice Minister Philip Banks told a news conference Mulbah Morlu was invited for questioning for calling the president a “rebel”.
Minister Banks claims the accusation borders on criminality and was demeaning to the presidency.
The Justice Minister said the NSA has the right to invite anyone for questioning when it sees the need and did not break any law.
He said Mr. Morlu was granted all rights under the law, questioned and subsequently released.
Minister Banks said the NSA will investigate the statements from Mr. Morlu and proceed from there.
He also dismissed reports that the arrest was an attempt to intimidate Mr. Morlu from holding a peaceful march on October 15.
