The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has ordered the closure of all Nurse Aides’ schools across the country.
Deputy Health Minister Bernice Dahn told Star Radio the schools are not accredited and lack professionalism.
Dr. Dahn says the Ministry’s policy grants only training hospitals with large caseloads to train Nurse Aides.
Dr. Dahn told Star Radio it was unfortunate to see health personnel who are aware of the policy operating Nurse Aides’ schools.
The Ministry has given the twenty one Nurse Aides schools that have emerged over the years up to October 30 to close or be prosecuted.
The Chief Medical Officer said government can not compromise the health of its people by allowing unqualified people to continue to work in health centers.
Dr. Dahn however said Nurse Aides who have been certificated by the schools over the years are being trained to upgrade their skills.
She however warned health facilities of accepting any Nurse Aides from the schools with immediate effect.
