Angry relatives of victims of the Kolleh Town massacre Wednesday chased a group of students from the grounds of the Temple of Justice.

The group, of at least 30 students from Margibi County, was calling for the release of detained Senator Roland Kaine.

They carried placards with various inscriptions, some accusing government of witch hunt.

The students claimed they are beneficiaries of a scholarship scheme sponsored by the Senator whose detention was negatively affecting their schooling.

Before angry Slipway residents chased them out, an old lady expressed disappointment over the students’ action.

According to our judicial correspondent, the situation could have been more chaotic had the Police not urgently intervened.

Our correspondent said the students ran for safety in every direction, some un-dressing themselves.

Meanwhile, a state application for Judge Karboi Nuta to recuse himself from the Kolleh Town murder trial has delayed the hearing of Senator Kaine’s his motion to bail.

Despite the state’s motion, Judge Nuta was prepared to hear the application to admit Senator Kaine to bail.

Prosecution in the application said Judge Nuta’s September 23rd ruling destroyed his ability to fairly handle the trial.

Solicitor General Tiawan Gongloe said Wednesday’s disturbance at the Temple of Justice was a direct result of Judge Nuta’s ruling.

But defense lawyer, Cllr. Francis Garlawolo, in resistance, said the motion was purely intended to irritate the Judge.

Cllr. Garlawolo argued Judge Nuta has not demonstrated any act of bias and there was no reason for him to recuse himself.

Judge Nuta has reserved ruling on the issue pending a notice of assignment.
