The National Students Intellectual Council of Liberia has criticized the Press Union of Liberia for receiving the US$100,000 from President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.
In a release issued, the council said the donation is a cause for alarm.
The council observed it appears that a situation of silence by the PUL who should be the watchdog of society is now being created.
According to the student intellectual group, the watchdog will not bark when the person who feeds it is in error.
The council said PUL decision to receive the donation must be carefully scrutinized by the Liberian public.
It said President Sirleaf made the donation following the union’s withdrawal from the committee to investigate the Willis Knuckles email saga.
Deputy Information Minister Cletus Sieh, on behalf of government, last week, announced a donation of 100-thousand U.S. dollars to the PUL.
This followed a formal request to the government to assist the umbrella organization with its Headquarters construction project on 14th Street in Monrovia.
