The Special Court for Sierra Leone has suspended the trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor until Monday.

The Public Information Officer of the Special Court said the defence team of Mr. Taylor was expected to cross-examine the prosecution 52nd witness Wednesday after she completed her direct examination on Tuesday.

Mr. Solomon Moriba said the Defence Team waived the cross-examination of the Sierra Leonean woman who allegedly suffered sexual violence during the civil war in her country.

Mr Moriba said the prosecution had thought that the cross-examination of the 52nd witness by the defence would have taken place Wednesday so they did not prepare the 53rd witness who should have taken the stand next.

Mr. Moriba told reporters of the BBC World Service Trust there would also be no hearing of Mr. Taylor’s case on Thursday and Friday.

The Special Court Public Information Officer said the International Criminal Court, ICC, along with the Sierra Leone Court would observe a Dutch Public Holiday on Thursday and Friday.

Mr. Moriba assured the war crimes trial of Charles Taylor would resume on next Monday.
