Rivercess citizens take issue with MOF Print E-mail

Citizens of Rivercess County have expressed concern over decision by the Finance Ministry to place the county’s revenue collectorate under Grand Bassa County.

The Citizens Development Association said the decision by the Finance Ministry has the propensity to undermine the status of Rivercess as a county.

The association concern was contained in a statement issued during a mass citizens meeting.

In the statement, the citizens appealed to Finance Minister Augustine Ngafuan to restore the revenue collectorate and appoint an agent for tax collection.

The citizens said the appointment of the Grand Bassa agent to supervise Rivercess does not augur well for a county that has its own administrative structure.

It is very clear that each county in Liberia is by all measure equal by law and has the full constitutional will to stir its affairs and to be treated fairly by the central government under all prevailing circumstance. In every instance it is, however, important for the government to take note of its obligatory duties in dealing with counties with great respect to its functions because each county requires as conditions of the country detact, maximal financial and moral support. Such assistence, be it little or huge, whether the help is timely or late coming, is highly meaningful to putting these counties on the path to recovery and sustainable economic status.

To ensure true equity of law of existence I will want to call on the government to accept and recognize Rivercess' constitutional right not to place its revenue collectorate under Grand Bassa county. Let not the Finance Ministry miss-match such task of the Ministry, and it should be conciously resolved to help the county understand that its free will to exist and be respected as by the government should be clear at all level.

The ministry of finance should redirect her decision without any delayed. Government policy maker should know better. Rivercess County has it own county status. I think tax revenue for government should be collected by the county administrator or a finance ministry agent be assigned to the county for such functions. Grand Bassa has nothing to do with Rivercess county when comes to the county functions.
