Civil Society organizations have met with the National Elections Commission for the second time promising to organize a working group.

The meeting with civil society was part of series of public consultations the NEC is having with stakeholders in the democratic process.

The NEC has maintained that the failure of the National Legislature to pass three electoral bills is hindering its functions.

The civil Society groups resolved to meet with other stakeholders including political parties to harmonize engagements before meeting the Lawmakers.

The groups have also planned to meet with the Executive to discuss the possibility of having the House re-convene to discuss and pass the bills.

According to NEC, the passage of the bills is crucial to the conduct of voter registration, local elections and the general and presidential polls in 2011.

Please don't think I am just being critical of congress all because things are not being handled sometimes in a responsible way. If you this congress does a good job, then, that is something great, and such achievement is recognized in good fate. But it has to clear at all levels that this congress has in many instances been relunctant and slow to act on important national issues that really matter. And, to me, such hesitant attitude and sturbboness displaced over years by congress should be unacceptable and revoked by every conscious citizen. In most cases real issues have been avioded while meaningness and, less purposeful points of conflict have always gained close attention among these honorable Senators.

Now it is clear angain, for the most part, that congress is turning eyes away from an important matter. As it is paramount for all Liberians to rightfully served under the laws of his/her country, Liberia, the debating and passing of the voter registration bills to allow the NEC maximal time to begin preparation for local and general elections in 2011 is a part of such constitutional right. Congress must do all it can to help the NEC in putting all sticks in place so that a transperant process can take place, and Liberians will be given a fair treatment. Do your job congress; it does matter.
