The Forum for the Establishing of a War Crimes Court in Liberia has lauded the U.S. Congress for passing a legislation against Liberian warlords.
The National Chairman of the group said the legislation seeks to prosecute Liberian warlords under U.S. federal laws for the recruitment of child soldiers.
Mr. Mulbah Morlu said a dispatch from the U.S. States Department indicates any warlord being accused of recruitment of child soldiers may be arrested upon arrival in the U.S.
Mr. Morlu said the dispatch clearly states the recruitment of child soldiers is an act that contravenes international humanitarian law and a violation of U.S. laws.
He told Star Radio Liberia is witnessing the revealing of a new daybreak in transitional justice possibilities.
Mr. Morlu sees the U.S. legislation as a new beginning of international efforts to curtail impunity irrespective of where it occurs.
Mr. Morlu said insensitive Liberian warlords who recruited child soldiers and transformed them into killing machines should have reasons to worry.
He observed the United States wants to ensure that it does not serve as comfortable haven for war criminals and violators of international law.
