Today Friday October 24 is United Nations Day and will be observed throughout the country as a working holiday.

The day is in recognition of the invaluable contributions made by the United Nations to universal peace and security.

A Presidential Proclamation calls upon all United Nations agencies near Monrovia, schools and other institutions of learning to organize appropriate programs in recognition of the day.

The Presidential roclamation is in consonance with a resolution declaring October 24 each year as the anniversary of the coming into being of the UN charter.

A Foreign Ministry release said official programs marking the observance of the day will take place at the Centennial Pavilion in Monrovia.

According to the release, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Conmany Wesseh will deliver the United Nations keynote address.

Also, Vice President Joseph Boakai and the head of UNMIL Ellen Margrethe Loj are expected to deliver special statements.
