The Deputy Representative of UNICEF-Liberia has urged the use of what she called rights based approach in addressing child protection issues in the country.

Madam Susan Ngongi said when this approach is used the rights of vulnerable and list fulfilled children would be prioritized.

Madam Ngongi said government and its partners should act as a greater catalyst and step up efforts at ensuring that children across the country enjoy the basic human rights without segregation.

The UNICEF-Liberia Deputy Representative named some of the rights of children as those to education, health and protection, among others.

For his part, the Director of the Liberia Institute for Public Administration noted that Liberian children have been what he termed short-changed through the war years.

Professor Harold Monger stressed the need to design program that would focus on protecting the rights and needs of children in difficult circumstances.

The two personalities spoke Tuesday at the start of a three-day capacity building workshop organized by government and UNICEF-Liberia in Monrovia.

The workshop is discussing issues including policy analysis, human rights based approach to programming for children and results based budgeting.

It brought together counties superintendents, representatives of human rights organizations and personnel from government ministries and agencies.
