A two-day development meeting of Nimba citizens has ended in Tappita without an agreement on the usage of money given the county by Arcelor-Mittal.
The mining company has given Nimba County the total of three million United States dollars as development assistance to the county.
Our correspondent said the county’s administration and the Legislative Caucus earlier proposed the purchase of two sets of road-building equipment.
According to our correspondent, the proposal was rejected by four of the six statutory districts of the county.
The citizens however, prepared a resolution, calling for more time for citizens to meet at district levels to decide on how the money could be used.
Meanwhile, the citizens refused to discuss the two hundred thousand U.S. dollars allotted to Nimba as County Development Fund in the 2008-2009 Budget.
The delegates said the two hundred thousand dollars issue will be tabled until progress reports are made on present projects under implementation.
Also in Nimba County, a farmer in Zuluyee has suffered gunshot wound following an attack by two men suspected of being thieves.
According to our correspondent, Toweh Sonkarley was shot in his stomach with a home-made single barrel gun while guarding his farm.
It all started Wednesday morning when Mr. Sonkarley with some of his farm workers attacked Alex Luogon and Aaron Kpayeelee suspected of being thieves.
It was at this time that Alex Luogon allegedly fired a round, wounding Toweh Sonkarley in his lower abdomen.
Our correspondent said the suspects, Alex Luogon and Aaron Kpayeelee, were also chopped badly on both legs by angry crowd.
The suspects told Star Radio that they were attacked by men they considered hide-men while returning from a hunting expedition on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, Toweh Sonkarley whose intestine came out as the result of the shooting is in a critical condition, receiving treatment at the Ganta Methodist Hospital.
