The Ministry of Education says it has received from counties education officers a comprehensive listing of volunteer teachers across the country.
Education Minister Dr. Joseph Korto told Star Radio the listing put the total number of volunteer teachers in the country at over seven thousand.
Dr. Korto said the listing would be scrutinized because some of the schools the volunteers teachers claimed to be teaching are not owned by government.
He said the ministry requested the listed volunteer teachers to submit their credentials to the ministry to determine the qualified ones.
Minister Korto indicated that those who will meet the employment guideline of the ministry will be considered for employment at the appropriate time.
According to Dr. Korto, it was difficult for the ministry to address issues pertaining to the volunteer teachers because it has no data on them.
The Education Ministry Boss made it cleared that the ministry did not employ the volunteer teachers; as such it was no legally obligated to them
He however, said government would give the volunteer teachers what he called a token of appreciation following the scrutiny of the listing for the services rendered the state.
