Star Radio has been credibly informed that the Acting President Pro-Tempore of the Senate, Lahai Lassana is to join the opposition Liberty Party.
Mr. Lassana was elected to the Senate in 2005 by the people of Bomi County on the ticket of the National Democratic Party of Liberia.
Star Radio has for the past weeks spotted Senator Lassana around the Liberty Party and there are indications that he would shortly make his association public.
Senator Lassana and suspended President Pro-Temp Isaac Nyenabo are both members of the NDPL of slain President Samuel Doe.
The both are standing at different ends of the leadership crisis that has engulfed the Upper House for more than four months.
It is not clear what may have been the underlying factor of Senator Lassana’s decision to quit the former ruling party.
However, political observers considered the move by the Executive Committee of the NDPL to back Senator Nyenabo in a suit against the Senate as a major factor.
